No Rest for the Wicked Lyrics
So only one life can't be enough
Can you give me just another
For that one who got away
There's no song for the choir
There's no hope for the weary
If you let them win without a fight
Only then can we begin
So won't you hold on a little longer
Don't let them get away
There's no song for the choir
There's no hope for the weary
If you let them win without a fight
I let my good one down
I let my true love die
I had his heart but I broke it every time
There's no song for the choir
There's no hope for the weary
If you let them win without a fight
I let my good one down
I let my true love die
I had his heart but I broke it every time

I think it is about a girl that breaks hearts, but she dont want to. She belives she is wicked, but the rest of the song she feels bad for what she does, what it means she is not really "wicked", she takes bad choices but she fights agains her inner villain, because she talks about fighting it. The songs, talk about how we hurt others even if you dont want to, but you have to fight against that, fight for love. The girls wants another life to fight from the begining.

She loved him. She broke his heart many times. He got away. She still loves him.

It's about not allowing any time for pain to heal, just going on and finding a replacement when you're heartbroken. Eventually, you get lonely again, but you dust off, and move on, and the cycle keeps going hurting guys along the way.
As an interpretation, noone is right or wrong, but I hope to God that is not what Lykke was trying to say. My interpretation is that she broke a mans heart and lost contact with him, and wishes she had another life to be with him again. She realizes only in hindsight that she lost a real keeper.

I ask any females reading to consider the karmic debt accrued by just casually breaking men's hearts the second you lose interest.

I think in this 'the wicked' refers to her. It sounds like she was in a relationship but she treated him bad and he came back each time but she did it to him again and again and now she's lost him forever, so she's asking for another chance, another chance to find love again because she feels isolated but she knows she deserves it 'cause she had a love and she treated him wrong.

He got away from an emotionally abusive woman, good for him. She clearly didn't want him, she just wanted the attention, and now that he is gone for good she is upset? Good grief. Wicked indeed.
